What do you use to record data when observing special needs students?

Do you have a favorite form or system? Pencil and paper or computer? Do you use video to record the student's behavior? And have you heard of/used the eCOVE Observation Software (I wrote it)? Lots of SpEd folks in K-12 are using it, but wondered how familiar university folks are with it.See More

The first is based on Flander's Analysis research and is useful in observing any classroom. These are the components of good teaching in most situations. You need to gather data for the entire class or lesson in elementary for this tool to be useful.…

In-class observation of university faculty

Next week I'll be going into a graduate class at Willamette University to observe a Supervision and Evaluation faculty member and students. When I offered to use the eCOVE Observation Software to gather data on student performance as they present synopsis of textbook chapters it was welcomed with open arms. I'm going to also gather data on teacher talk/student talk.

I'll begin by talking about what data I'll be collecting and how it will be used. I will be sending the data directly… Continue
