Professor Hodgson has worked as a legal academic for the past 32 years spanning Canada, England, Australia and New Zealand. He served as Associate Dean, Faculty of Law, The University of Western Australia in the 1990's and became Dean of Law, The University of Notre Dame Australia (Fremantle Campus) in January, 2013. He also chairs the Research Degrees and Scholarships Committee.
He has published 30 peer-reviewed law journal articles and four treatises, specializing in the international human rights of children, the human right to education, the concept of individual duty within a human rights discourse, and intervening causation issues. Professor Hodgson has worked with the Australian Research Council as a peer reviewer and grants assessor since 2009 and is also a grants assessor with the Marsden Fund which is administered by the Royal Society of New Zealand. He is an attender and alumnist of the Oxford Round Table and an attender and alumnist of the Justice and Society Symposia of the Melbourne-based Cranlana Programme (by invitation only).
