I've seen both WEBEX and the Adobe Connect system (we use connect here).
They are both not "bulletproof," but given the right infrastructure investment, they seem to be a good answer for nodal/distance delivery.

Hi Gwen, could you elaborate on exactly how you use Google Docs? I'm intrigued by your suggestion. We use Blackboard at RMU, and have Wimba Open Classroom (which I recently discovered). I try to run my DL classes to be like on-ground classes as much as possible, which means I make my students watch lecture videos and take notes, on which the tests are based. Wimba lets you record yourself, and your powerpoints, and any notes you make or websites you open, and it archives it for use in any BB shell.

CU has a version of Blackboard called CULEARN that I have been using for on-line courses for the last year and a half. It lets me have different types of discussions as well as link to outside videos like TED.

Hi Roger, another possibility is google docs. There are great collaboration tools for sharing presentations as well as working together on projects.

Hi Roger - we use the Sakai platform which is open source like Moodle. My distance learning director just set us up with DimDim for conferencing. It is free for up to 20 people.

Elluminate Live offers 3 for free, a free 3 person Elluminate Web conferencing application that is quite good. The LMS you are referring to is Moodle, an open source learning management system that is quite widespread in the states.

Does anyone know about a free software tool that can be used to do live DL with multiple students globally? I am looking for a tool like CISCO WEBEX or Adobe Connect that can be used to conduct live discussions and share digital images like Powerpoints for virtual education.

I use Blackboard but am developing a platform for a school I am working with in Romania. The school is Emanuel University in Oradea, Romania. Within the university I am working with the Griffiths Scool of Management. We are trying to start a DL channel for our undergrad business majors and our MBA's. The platform we are using is CLAROLINE. It is free which is a big plus for our budget. Also I just heard about a platform called Moogle. Does anyone know about that?
